Festuca is a true wrap dress that can also be cut at a top length. Tie closure makes for an easy adjustable fit, and a deep back pleat adds generous ease and movement to an otherwise straight silhouette. Festuca can be sewn in knit or woven fabrics, sleeveless or with a long bell sleeve, as well as with or without a collar.

Festuca is a versatile pattern that can be made in knit or woven fabric. The simple shapes and construction lend themselves fabric of all kinds. I could see this just as easily in a casual slub knit with a raw hem or even a heavily sequined eveningwear fabric.

Herbal Inspiration 🌿

Festuca or fescue is a massive botanical family of grasses that grow all over the world. After living on the dry prairie in Montana for many years, I learned that native grasses are truly rare. Where I was in Montana, they were all but completely replaced by managed pasture grasses. And some years, those new-fangled grass varieties would struggle to grow a foot tall. I found myself wishing I could blink my eyes open and see the prairies as they once were: diverse grasses up to my waist, rippling in the wind like waves on water. Home to countless species of wildlife, with birds swooping overhead and bomber diving into the tall grass.
